Switches which Claude model the current session uses — useful for trading off speed against depth of reasoning mid-task.
Not every step in a session needs the same amount of reasoning. Broad exploration or a quick fix can run fine on a faster model; a genuinely gnarly bug or an architectural decision benefits from a more capable one. /model lets you switch without starting a new session.
A common pattern: stay on a faster model for the bulk of routine work, and switch up specifically when you hit something that's actually hard — then switch back down once it's resolved.
The switch only affects the model going forward; it doesn't retroactively re-run anything earlier in the conversation.
